Republicans are comedy gold in (non) impeachment hearing
Fri Jul 25, 2008 at 04:07:06 PM PDT
You know what's funny? Republican congressmen, staunchly pro-Bush despite everything (insert endless list of crimes and misdemeanors here), moaning and whining throughout today's hearing, because the chair, or the witnesses, or the audience, weren't following the rules.
That is the fucking most ironic thing I have ever heard.

Mothership - Rec it, not this
Continuing gchaucer2's diary on Kucinich impeachment resolution being heard in referred to Judiciary Committee, where hopefully a hearing will happen. (I think that's what's happening. Correct me in comments if necessary.)
McCain't OK for Oklahoma (with poll)
Fri Jun 06, 2008 at 08:06:44 PM PDT
Hey, Kossacks, please help me with info, links, images and other resources for a new site I'm making to help get out information about McCain in Oklahoma.
I especially need Oklahomans to be contributors so they can post about how McCain's votes and campaign policy/promises will not be good for our state's future, our economy, or our people.
Sorry for the slight diary, I really need y'all to fill it out in the comments with your suggestions.
Thanks in advance.
Holy cr@p, Obama broke Excel!
Mon May 26, 2008 at 02:23:14 PM PDT
This is freaking blowing my mind:
milestone of sorts was reached earlier this year, when Obama, the Illinois senator whose revolutionary online fundraising has overwhelmed Clinton, filed an electronic fundraising report so large it could not be processed by popular basic spreadsheet applications like Microsoft Excel 2003 and Lotus 1-2-3.
Not that Excel is that robust, but still, when the FEC can't count your donors for the sheer volume, that's a pretty good sign that we are in a new political universe and nothing will ever be the same.
MDA refuses racist's 'donation' from t-shirt sales
Tue May 20, 2008 at 09:49:08 AM PDT
Good news!
I just got a reply to my email to the Georgia Muscular Dystrophy Association, actually from the national office, saying that they not only will refuse the money from the racist t-shirts, but have taken legal action for use of the MDA name in fundraising without permission.
I promised I would make a donation to the group if they took such action, and I will be fulfilling that promise.
My short note, and the MDA reply after the jump.
Oklahoma leg passes nation's 1st law requiring vaginal ultrasound before abortion [Updated]
Wed Apr 16, 2008 at 04:22:13 PM PDT
On Wednesday, April 9, SB 1878, an omnibus anti-abortion bill, passed the Oklahoma Senate by a vote of 38 - 10. The draconian bill forces doctors to perform an invasive procedure on a woman one hour prior to an abortion, including verbal descriptions of the fetus.
This is bad enough in the most ideal circumstances, but imagine you are the victim of rape or incest, and are pregnant not through choice, but through a violent crime. This law will not exclude you, but force you to endure yet another intrusion into your autonomy and privacy.
Women in Oklahoma and their allies are making a last ditch effort to stop this monstrous bill from becoming law. Please read on to see how you can help.
The cupcakes challenge: Andrew Rice calls on Inhofe to help troops [OK-Sen]
Fri Apr 04, 2008 at 07:11:49 AM PDT
Yesterday in Norman, Oklahoma, a nice young man made a donation to Bake Sales for Body Armor, a project that does just what the name implies. See, the U.S. government has significant shortfalls in supplying some of the little things that soldiers like to have handy, like effective armor to help keep them safe.
The Bake Sales for Body Armor idea was started by an Iraq vet and the wife of another soldier about three years ago, and bake sales have been held all across the country.
Students at Oklahoma City Community College held their fourth such fundraiser on Thursday, and they were happy to see a return customer, who they know does more than just mouth platitudes like "Support the troops." He actually puts his money where his mouth is.
Wal-Mart relents: to let Shanks keep money

NOT APRIL FOOLS!!! Just got a message from walmartwatch.org. Very good news for this much suffering family.
But we still need to continue to pressure them. This is not a fight that can be won with one case at a time approach.

What passes for journalism in Oklahoma [with poll]
Wed Mar 26, 2008 at 11:35:23 AM PDT
Do you have trouble telling this

from this?

Was that so hard?
Apparently, it is for the two major newspapers in Oklahoma, the Daily Oklahoman and the Tulsa World.
Nationwide vigils to mark 4000
Sun Mar 23, 2008 at 08:32:42 PM PDT
Please provide info about vigils taking place in your community to mark this sad number in this senseless war.
It will help if you put your state and city in the title of your comment like "State, City".
Be sure to include time and street address. If you can link to a map, all the better.
Update: The American Friends Service Committee already has a list of events recognizing "4000" you can check, or post your own.
Young man whose mother died in OKC bombing writes Sally Kern
Wed Mar 12, 2008 at 04:32:26 PM PDT
The remarks by Sally Kern, the Oklahoma City legislator, bashing gays and lesbians and saying that their efforts for equal rights via citizen action is "the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam" has been well circulated across the country, indeed the world.
And many people have responded to Kern, either by emailing her, posting on blogs, etc.
But now I think the definitive response to Sally Kern has been published. It was written by a young man -- now a senior in high school -- whose mother was killed by an American-grown terrorist at the Oklahoma City bombing in 1993 -- and barely escaped death himself because he was home sick that day.
His perspective and feelings on the issue really are an important message to us all.
Take the Flaming Lips Challenge -- OK-Sen
Tue Mar 11, 2008 at 09:00:41 AM PDT
CATCH THE SPIRIT!
Take The Flaming Lips Netroots Challenge!
Wayne Coyne is giving Andrew Rice his support, so that Oklahoma can replace outdated Inhofe with a progressive, young Democrat. He's hosting a fundraiser tonight -- and everyone's invited!
Those in OKC can come meet the Flaming Lips singer tonight for a mere $50 donation to Andrew Rice's campaign.
But we need everyone else to be there with Andrew and Wayne IN SPIRIT by making a donation -- of any amount (plus $.01 netroots surcharge).
The Flaming Lips "Treat Inhofe like Oberweis" Netroots Challenge
Mon Mar 10, 2008 at 01:31:11 PM PDT
Saturday in Illinois, when Republican James Oberweis lost Dennis Hastert's former seat to Democrat Bill Foster on Saturday, a major shockwave registered throughout the GOP nationwide. The message sent and received was crystal clear: Americans want nothing more of the GOP style of government and will be firing Republican officeholders en masse this fall.
The message we Democrats got from this political earthquake was that there is no such thing as a "safe Republican seat" anymore -- if we work like hell, and believe.
That's why Andrew Rice's effort to dethrone Oklahoma's 74-year-old Jim Inhofe, who's been in DC for 21 years and a Senator since 1995, is so vital and exciting.
Y'all! We can win this thing! With hard work and a lot of support from Democrats across the country -- meaning YOU.
Please read on and find out about our "Treat Inhofe like Oberweis" Netroots Challenge featuring Flaming Lips singer Wayne Coyne, an Oklahoma progressive, just like Andrew Rice.
Feministing Alliance -- local groups for feminist connections and action
Mon Mar 03, 2008 at 07:05:04 PM PDT
[As far as I'm concerned, this does not reference any presidential campaigns, but is about a wider and longer-term effort for women's rights to respect, autonomy and equality.]
Today Feministing.com posted about a pending redesign of the site, and mentioned a new idea the editors wanted to try, building an alliance of local groups "connecting feminists who want to meet, talk and even organize."
Before you could say "Wow, 'feministing' really is a verb!" there were 16 local groups signed up in this new Alliance, representing over 1200 members.
Come with me over the great divide and let's talk about what this might mean and offer.
Wayne Coyne of Flaming Lips helps out Andrew Rice, OK-Sen
Sun Mar 02, 2008 at 08:00:09 PM PDT
Most Kossacks have already heard about the progressive Democrat who's challenging ultra-conservative Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe. Andrew Rice has already generated lots of enthusiasm here, as well at at Firedoglake, Crooks & Liars and other Netroots blogs, as well as at ActBlue.
But as young, dynamic and compelling as Andrew is, it will be a tough campaign in a traditionally "red" state against a well-funded, entrenched opponent. He needs help from inside and outside of the state for the resources to compete and win.
Fortunately there are other young and dynamic Oklahoma progressives who are pitching in to help support Andrew. One you may have already heard of: Flaming Lips founder and singer, Wayne Coyne, who grew up and still lives in Oklahoma City.
Why (I think) Edwards dropped out
Thu Jan 31, 2008 at 01:30:37 PM PDT
One of the big questions across the blogs yesterday in the wake of Edwards' exit from the race, was: Why? Why now? What made him change his mind when just the day before, in Tulsa and elsewhere, he vowed he was in for "the long haul"?
If there's one thing about John Edwards that is abundantly clear from his entire life, it's that he's not a quitter ... so, then, why did he quit the race suddenly, before the one day that might possible turn the tide a little his way?
Well, of course none of us know the details of his thinking until and if he chooses to share them with us, but that doesn't stop folks like me from speculating, does it?
Attention Edwards supporters: you should still vote for him
Wed Jan 30, 2008 at 01:01:48 PM PDT
I just got an email from the Chair of the Oklahoma Democratic Party that gives me some hope that I can still vote for Edwards and have it still have an impact at the convention in Denver, in terms of advancing the issues that Edwards fought (and continues to fight) for.
Turns out that Edwards can still collect delegates in Oklahoma, and I presume, other states.
Edwards' "America Rising, Coast to Coast Tour" coming to OKC on Friday 1/18
Tue Jan 15, 2008 at 01:36:59 PM PDT
John Edwards (and hopefully Elizabeth) will be in my little "red state" neck of the woods this Friday. It's also the day of the big $7 million fundraising push, so I am psyched!
This is a stop on the campaign's America Rising, Coast to Coast Tour, designed to highlight that Edwards can win in states, like Oklahoma, that are considered red, but are more purple, and getting bluer by the minute.
After the jump are the details of the Oklahoma City event. Ya'll come if you're in the neighborhood.
